Can I use salicylic acid with vitamin C?
Yes. Both are acidic, so the usual advice is to use them at different times of day. Neither stops the other from working.
Yes, at different times. Vitamin C in the morning and salicylic acid at night suits most skin. Layering a leave-on salicylic acid with pure vitamin C in one sitting is a lot of acid at once and often stings.
Why they are spaced
Salicylic acid is an exfoliant with a low pH. Pure vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is formulated at a low pH as well. Applied one after the other, they do not react with each other. The skin simply gets two acidic products in a row, and plenty of faces answer that with redness and stinging.
So the reason to separate them is comfort. If your skin takes both in one sitting without complaint, nothing is being wasted.
A simple split
Use vitamin C in the morning on clean dry skin, followed by moisturiser and sunscreen. Use salicylic acid at night.
If your skin is already reactive, put them on alternate days. Vitamin C one morning, salicylic acid the next night, and a plain routine in between.
If the salicylic acid is a face wash
A wash is rinsed off within a minute and leaves very little acid behind. Using a salicylic acid cleanser and then vitamin C in the same routine is fine for most people. Dry the skin before the vitamin C goes on.
If the vitamin C is a derivative
Stabilised forms of vitamin C work at a gentler pH than pure ascorbic acid. With one of those, layering after a leave-on salicylic acid is easier on the skin. The exfoliation still counts toward your weekly total.
When to pull back
Tightness after washing, stinging when products go on, or new flaking mean the skin has had too much. Drop the salicylic acid for a week, keep the moisturiser and sunscreen, and bring it back less often.
The Brightening Face Mask carries two stabilised forms of vitamin C. Cham makes no salicylic acid product.
This page describes how ingredients behave together. It does not diagnose. A prescriber, a pregnancy, or a diagnosed skin condition outranks anything written here.

Which goes first, salicylic acid or vitamin C?
A salicylic acid face wash goes first because it is the cleanser. Rinse, dry the skin, then apply vitamin C. For a leave-on salicylic acid, use it at a different time of day from the vitamin C.
Can I use vitamin C in the morning and salicylic acid at night?
Yes, and that is the simplest way to use both. If the skin starts to feel tight, cut the salicylic acid back to alternate nights.
Is this a good combination for acne marks?
They do different jobs. Salicylic acid keeps pores clear, and vitamin C helps marks look more even over time. Daily sunscreen matters more to the marks than either one.
