The unusual ingredient here is hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol, and it is not an extract. It is built from xylose, a sugar taken from beech wood, and the difficulty is in the making: the active form has to be separated from its mirror image, a purification that a 2021 manufacturing patent describes as both hard and high-cost.
